Kathy had anouncements for Jeff's graduation. She has tried to find as many addresses as possible, but if anybody wants one please send me an address. You can email me at lgpron@cox.net Don't worry, we will not make you send money or gifts, we just want to send as many out to anyone that would like one

The end of the pictures. The real reason we go

Well, This is the end of my Pictures. I was only there for two days, but have enough memories to last a long time. I really enjoyed spending time with my brothers and Dad. There were so many fun times that Darren and I were discussing how we can get everyone up there. It was so much fun and I think I strained a muscle in my face from laughing so much and so hard.

There are many reasons why people go to Escalante, but here are some of the reasons we go.

Where else can you go to get away from a stressful job where sometimes you have to deal with some of the less than desirable people in society, only to find yourself laughing like you were going to pee your pants.

Or try to double dutch jumprope long after God meant for your body to do it.

Where can you jump out of a swing and feel like you were flying high enough that you might never hit the ground.

Or challenge your Uncle to a distance jumping contest and kick his butt.

Where else can you go to find a C.O. swinging like he was 5 years old?

BRIDGET DON'T READ THIS PART
Where else can you take your wifes minivan for a four wheel drive, and think that it is alright?

Or hang out with cousins for hours on end.

Where can you go that the air is thin enough that you can jump high enough to slam dunk a basketball

And challenge your brother to a dunking, blocking contest.

Or re-create the final slam by Kobe Bryan

Even though the rims are only half size.

Where can you go to find a piece of playground equipment that hasn't been removed due to a lawsuit from a lady who's kid got a blister playing on it at recess.

And keep spinning on it until you are so dizzy that you want to puke.

In the real world kids don't get to shoot their Dads 45's. (The gun is empty in this picture.)
But honestly, where can you go and teach your kids how to shoot and teach them both the fun and the responsibility that goes with them.

Where can you go and have your kids look forward to manual labor. When we go there is always lots of hard work, but the kids don't complain or realize that it is actually work.

Where else can you drive 5 hours to see cousins that you hardly ever get to see. (Even though they live 20 minutes from your house in Las Vegas).

For us it is Escalante. I love to go and see my Aunts and their families. I like to remember all the good times that we had as kids and make new memories with our own families. I love to go and come home only to call everyone and laugh like a retard over some of the nonesense that happened during our visit. We didn't get any camping or fishing in on this trip, but that is for another time and another post. I hope that this post wasn't too boring or too many pictures for those that don't know our family that well. This is the end of my pictures from this trip, but hopefully it gives you some insight into the life of what it can be like to be one of my family members for a short time.

Pictures from around town

Redrocks. As a kid we would spend hours sliding down the side of these hills on the wooden slides that fit in the grooves. I don't know how many hours were spent going down the hills, or how many pairs of pants were destroyed by the friction of the sandstone.

On Monday I had a chance to get up early and spend some time wandering around town. I took some of these photos, I don't think I will comment on them all, unless anybody has any comments or questions. To anybody who hasn't been to Escalante I hope you enjoy the pictures, for those of you that have been hopefully it will bring back memories.

This first picture was from Theron and Dixies yard. Theron was my Grandpas neighbor for as long as I can remember. He always had one of the nicest yards in town. He was always aware of Grandma and Grandpa and took care of some of the small things for them. Theron was killed in a car accident this past year and I know that he will be missed by his community. In a small town every person is an essential part of a small family. When one of the towns family members passes, the loss is felt by everyone, and there is a noticeable void. It was nice to see the flags put out by Dixie and I couldn't pass by without thinking about Theron or imagining him out working in his yard or tinkering with something in the garage.

The Tire swing. Over the years this has been a place where hours of time has been spent. Whether it has been kids being pushed, or slowly rocking and listening to the creek from the chains as they rub across the crossbar, this has always been a favorite place for the Grandkids to hang out.

The Escalante E. I like how the small towns all have their initial somewhere on a hillside. Every town has one and it is almost like "Wheres Waldo" trying to find it.

Looking down main street.

Grandpas truck. The tire was mounted on the front when Grandpa got older. He thought it would be easier to get to if he ever had to change it. I kind of agree Elisa that it probably would have made a safe bumper.

Griffins store was a favorite as a kid. They had the candy in a glass case and an old coke refrigerator by the front door. It was always a treat to get to go to the store with Grandpa and watch him pull out his old coin holder to count out the loose change and maybe even get a treat. When I was up on this trip the clerk at the grocery store recognized me as a Mecham and told me about one of the last times that Grandpa had come in. He said that after checking out the groceries, Grandpa reached in and pulled out some old silver dollars (not the real silver). He handed over the coins as part of the payment and said, "here, I want to pay you with these, I have been saving them for a while and want you to keep them. That way when I'm gone you will have something to remember me by". He said he still has the coins.

This is my favorite mountain range. Out of Grandpas back door you look directly at the sheer cliffs. There are a couple of arches etched out, and when it rains there are waterfalls that flow over the edge and fall a couple hundred feet. I took this from across the valley from the top of the town water tower.

I saw this old bulldozer. I have an excavation license and have several pieces of equipment. None are as old or cool as this old thing.

The road to Posey Lake.

Aunt Marlene was Postmaster at this Office. When she found out that I had a stamp collection she would send me collcetor stamps. Part of Grandpas daily routine was to run up to the Post office to check the mail.

Can I please just take a picture?

Sometimes when I take pictures I find it difficult to get everyone to cooperate. For instance....

I asked Luke if he would pose for me on the Dianasaur. He was more than happy to oblige, he just chose to pose differently than I had imagined.

Or this. Dad's ready, but I have to get everyone else in the mood.

Luke is especially hard to get to cooperate. Too much Pepsi........

Darren has to stage a pose. He has an unhidden tallent for staging photography
Dads still willing, Brett's kind of getting into it. Luke, running around in circles?

Or how about when you start to pose but the timer is not set right. How do you graciously try to act like you meant to do it.

Darren wanted Rabbit ears, Brett chose his P-30x pose.

And then there is Luke, I give up..........
