The end of the pictures. The real reason we go

Well, This is the end of my Pictures. I was only there for two days, but have enough memories to last a long time. I really enjoyed spending time with my brothers and Dad. There were so many fun times that Darren and I were discussing how we can get everyone up there. It was so much fun and I think I strained a muscle in my face from laughing so much and so hard.

There are many reasons why people go to Escalante, but here are some of the reasons we go.

Where else can you go to get away from a stressful job where sometimes you have to deal with some of the less than desirable people in society, only to find yourself laughing like you were going to pee your pants.

Or try to double dutch jumprope long after God meant for your body to do it.

Where can you jump out of a swing and feel like you were flying high enough that you might never hit the ground.

Or challenge your Uncle to a distance jumping contest and kick his butt.

Where else can you go to find a C.O. swinging like he was 5 years old?

BRIDGET DON'T READ THIS PART
Where else can you take your wifes minivan for a four wheel drive, and think that it is alright?

Or hang out with cousins for hours on end.

Where can you go that the air is thin enough that you can jump high enough to slam dunk a basketball

And challenge your brother to a dunking, blocking contest.

Or re-create the final slam by Kobe Bryan

Even though the rims are only half size.

Where can you go to find a piece of playground equipment that hasn't been removed due to a lawsuit from a lady who's kid got a blister playing on it at recess.

And keep spinning on it until you are so dizzy that you want to puke.

In the real world kids don't get to shoot their Dads 45's. (The gun is empty in this picture.)
But honestly, where can you go and teach your kids how to shoot and teach them both the fun and the responsibility that goes with them.

Where can you go and have your kids look forward to manual labor. When we go there is always lots of hard work, but the kids don't complain or realize that it is actually work.

Where else can you drive 5 hours to see cousins that you hardly ever get to see. (Even though they live 20 minutes from your house in Las Vegas).

For us it is Escalante. I love to go and see my Aunts and their families. I like to remember all the good times that we had as kids and make new memories with our own families. I love to go and come home only to call everyone and laugh like a retard over some of the nonesense that happened during our visit. We didn't get any camping or fishing in on this trip, but that is for another time and another post. I hope that this post wasn't too boring or too many pictures for those that don't know our family that well. This is the end of my pictures from this trip, but hopefully it gives you some insight into the life of what it can be like to be one of my family members for a short time.

  1. This was the best trip I've taken in a long time. I was never bored and looked forward to each of your posts--kind of sad its over. I love your family! I need to check my genealogy a little deeper to see if I'm related to you guys. There must me a Mecham somewhere in my line. If I find one, can I come to Escalante for a family party?

  2. Great photo-journalism...we all need those get-away-from-it-all times. Now you have something to daydream about while at the bottom of pools. Oops, reality.

  4. This was the funniest blog yet. It did bring back a lot of chldhood memories. It makes me want to take a trip there this summer. I have to say, the guys seem to have WAY more fun than the girls. Maybe on the next trip, you can show us how to have this kind of "pee your pants fun." I'm not really sure, but I think you and Brett are going to be in a lot of trouble when Bridget sees what you did with the van. Thanks for the blog and the memories.

  5. The first picture of Darren cracked me up. It looked like the picture that Machelle had up in her old house. He was 8 looking like he was 12. Wearing the Goofy hat with ears attached with the same smile! The basketball pictures..
I'm not sure if you realized it, but there wasn't a ball either!hahaha I am so jealous that you were able to go! I want to really try to make the next trip, so let me know in advance!
Stephanie- the only reason the guys trips are more fun, is because they don't have to bring all the kids with them. They can have all there freedom and do whatever they want! haha
