What we have been doing

I thought I would catch up on the Mecham Week. Lot's of good things have been happening and I thought I would share.

Mandy had try-outs for Cheer leading. She made the squad again for next year, and is looking forward to being involved with all of the things that go along with it. She has had a lot of fun and it has been a great experience for her. She is getting ready for the summer, and if anyone knows Mandy they will appreciate that she already has her summer organized. Tonight when we went for her favorite treat (Parfait at McDonald's) she ran through her summer itinerary. 1 week at, Aunt Susan, Aunt Jenny, Chance Jolley's house in Beaver, Escalante with G&G Mecham, The Ranch with G&G Tebbs , and she also wants to have time to hang out at the pool and hang with friends. I didn't know that it was possible to pack in so much into one summer vacation.
She just recently returned from Reno and California for Choir, she also has been invited to go to California with the Orchestra. I am exhausted from just listening to these travel plans and am still adding up the carbon footprint damage that will be caused by all this travel. (trying to be politically correct),

Jake had a soccer tournament today. They won the first game 3-0. Jake scored a header and had a great game. The 2nd game was not so good. Jake is #8 and he is not backing down at all to #9 from the other team. Soccer has been fun, but I am ready for him to try something else for a change.

Jeff had 3 Volleyball games. They won two of their matches, and lost one. There are only two more season games and then they go regionals. Their team has come a long way in the past couple of weeks and we are looking forward to play-offs. Jeff has improved his jump shot and setting and is a pretty good player. His team has some real height and can smash the ball when they are on. Jeff has been an aide for his VB coaches math class. His coach has been a great mentor to Jeff and they like to review the stats for the game. He explains to me what their percentages are for every part of the game and where they need to be to win. Who would have guessed that the secret for success in sports ultimately comes down to mathematics.

I have a couple of pools that are on display at the Parade of Homes. This is probably my favorite and we were involved with several portions of this home. There is a river that flows from the back yard, under a walkway that connects the two parts of the house together and into the front courtyard.

The Pool has a sunken bar with stools. A stacked stone feature that spills into the pool, a spa set back with a small river that carries into the pool. It has a daybed, but my favorite part is a design that I came up with. It is called a floating wet deck. If you look in the upper corner of the pool you can see the circular wet deck. It is about 5" deep and fills up and flows over into the pool. It is designed for either lounge chairs, or even a play pool for little kids. I was interviewed for a magazine and they wrote up an article on the floating wet deck. If you see it on any other pools, know that it is an original idea of mine, but I don't mind sharing with the design impaired people out there.

Inside of the house there is a pretty impressive water wall. It runs from the top ceiling down three floors. It is awesome and puts out an awesome tranquil sound. The facing is slotted granite and creates a wave effect as the water drops. On the basement level there is a sitting area around the basin to just chill and watch the water.

Tim is finished with track. Now he is getting ready for football camps.
Kathy is close to finishing up with her math classes and is teaching off and on as a substitute.
Tonight we are home. Netflix sent us the movie Bye- bye Birdie. Kathy's mom loves musicals and somehow I think this has carried over to Kathy. That would be the wrap up for the week. Thanks for checking in and we will try to organize our Music with the Mechams for tomorrow. If I can get the family to do the song I want it will be a slight miracle. I am still waiting for Ron Swifts request.

  1. I need to take a nap after reading all the things your family is doing. Love the pools! Someday maybe we can upgrade from our blow-up pool to a real pool like you make.

  2. Ditto to what Carol said. As for my request, hymn #136 & 193. Either one would be fine. Or, Norman Greenbaum's Spirit In the Sky. (your kids will be sorry you asked) :)

  3. Wow, you are such a busy family, I think that is so great! I hope that Doug and I will be able to have our kids involved and and doing well at the things they love too. I love to go to the parade of homes here in St. George. I love your pool design! I havent ever seen your work, it is amazing! If we stay here in St. George and get a home that needs a pool (which it will seeing as it is not much cooler here then it is in Vegas) hopefully you can be the one to do the job. We are glad to hear your family is doing well.
