My wife is a student, my daughter is a cheerleader!

Kathy started back to school the other day. It is kind of funny picturing her in a class full of kids just out of high school. As a Dad of 4 I have had the experience of having my kids go throught the nervousness and excitement of getting ready for that big first day of class, as a husband it is a much different experience. All day long I wondered how her day was going, and if she would be able to jump back in after being out for a couple of years. Would she remember some of the things that you learn in high school and then tuck away because "you will never use it".

Here is the deal, Kathy is not afraid of anything, when most people back away from challenges, she approaches them head on. I have watched in amazement as she has rode horses, quads, climbed to the highest possible point of a rock wall at Gameworks in the MGM, and taught classes at 24 hr Fitness. She even graduated from UNLV when she was 9 months pregnant with Jeff. There is not a task that she approaches half heartedly. Some people seem to get older, Kathy just seems to get better.

Tonight Mandy cheered at her at her first basketball game. She did not make cheerleading her first year in Jr. high, or even this year when they first picked their squad. That didn't matter, she kept working on her back, flip, rollover, tuck thingy, until she had perfected her moves. Eventually when they realized they needed to add girls to the squad she was given an invite to try out, and made it on. I watch her as she gets a new song on the violin, and as her songs become progressively harder, she works until she picks it up. I don't think she realizes yet that she has so much determination or where she gets it from, but someday when she has the time to sit back and reflect on things, I hope she realizes what a great gift she has recieved from her Mom. I often wonder if Karen realizes how much of herself she has passed onto Kathy.
