Last Week we went to the Volleyball tournament to see the Centennial Bulldogs play in La Jolla.
I am not a huge sports fan, but I like to watch the boys play. I especially like going to see them at LaJolla. We played at the Bishops School in LaJolla. This is the campus that these poor kids are subjected to going to every day. It is only a couple of blocks from the beach and the weather is incredible.
Compared to my High school at Las Vegas High School, I was jealous. Please compare the difference. Their school has green grass, tall trees, fresh air. My school had guard towers, barbed wire, and occasionally we would get vagrants that would wander into the bathrooms and pass out. This is a photo of Mrs. Helaman my Junior English teacher, she also worked as a lunch monitor.

Kathy's Parents, Dan and Karen Tebbs rode down with us and we met up with her sister Susan.
We had a great time and I kind of like going on road trips with Dan and Karen. They are lots of fun, and Kathy had a chance to ask her Dad lots of math questions. Karen and I were left out of the conversation (We don't speak math).
The boy's had a great time. Last year they took 3rd place, this year..... let's just leave at "they had fun". LaJolla is a great tournament. It is early in the season for the boys, and it gives them an opportunity to play lots of volleyball against many different teams. It is amazing to see the difference in the teams playing ability after this tournament. By playing so much they seem to gel better as a team, and it makes for a better season. Coach Nelson has been an awesome coach for the boys, many of his players have gone on to play for colleges and B.Y.U. seems to recruit heavily from Centennial.

Jeff is playing setter again and is having a great year so far. He has looked forward to the season all year long, and is hoping for a successful, fun year.
Kathy by the beach. We both agreed that the water in LaJolla seems clearer here than anywhere else on the coast.

This was a sculpture (or a horrible boating accident) by the museum of modern art.

During one of the breaks he was standing sideways on the stand and said "this is my best angle."

You be the judge, which side looks best?

Here are a few random photos from the trip. Kathy and Karen at the corner of the school. After spending a weekend with them I now understand where Kathy gets her energy from. Karen is constantly on the move.

On our walk, we saw Dan, Karen, and Sue sitting down by the ocean. I tried to snap a candid photo, but was caught. The Beach is comprised of big smooth sandstone rocks. It was awesome. I can't wait to go back, I am already planning the trips for when Jake is old enough to play. I think that this is another reason that I like volleyball. Whenever I have gone to a soccer tournament I find that it is a full day sitting in some park with dead grass. At least on the Volleyball tournaments we get to have the great scenery and end up eating way too much good food.
well how can i not comment after our coversation last night?!!!! kathys mom has always been a go getter!!! They look great still! p.s. im planning a recession trip soon!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe recession party sounds fun, I say we go all out and jump a freight train to get there.
ReplyDeleteOh those poor Californians! There life really sucks. What an ugly place to live! Oh by the way, thanks for visiting! Mandy called while she was at Disneyland, I had her convinced that I was following her around the park while she was holding some boys hand!
ReplyDeleteShe quickly went from texting to calling me so she could hear my background noises! hahaha
I haven't seen Karen and Dan in years--love those two! As for the guards at your school--we they trying to keep you in or out?
ReplyDeleteGreat to see pics of Dan & Karen, hadn't seen them in years. I'm still greaful that they let me and a few scouts use their Panquitch cabin once, we didn't burn it down or break any windows. I think Brett was with us. Trip looks like fun, too bad So Cal is so crowded, love to live there.
